The Vibrant Kingfisher

The diademed kingfisher, with its dazzling blue feathers and sharp beak, is a rare treasure in the zoo’s aviary. These birds require specific care, as their diets consist primarily of fresh fish and insects.

A kingfisher named Spark became the focus of a conservation education program. To ensure Spark remained active, zookeepers created a flowing water feature in the aviary, allowing him to dive for his food as he would in the wild. Visitors are often delighted to watch Spark’s precision as he catches fish, a true display of his natural skills.
