The Regal Asiatic Lion

The Asiatic lion, a subspecies distinct from its African relatives, is critically endangered, with fewer than 700 left in the wild. At the zoo, the male lion named Sultan is a true symbol of strength and resilience. Rescued from an illegal wildlife trade, Sultan arrived weak and undernourished.

Zookeepers carefully designed a spacious and enriched habitat for him, complete with shaded areas resembling the Gir Forest in India. Sultan’s diet was carefully planned, including fresh meat, bones for dental health, and occasional treats like goat milk.
